Exercise 23

1. My favorite discoveries and exercises were flikr, youtube, and library thing.
2. I found or discovered while in this process that there is so much that I don't know and need to learn. As a librarian one must keep up with the fast moving pace of life long learning in order to meet the needs of the general public. Just when I think I got it, I have new information and technologies to remind me that I don't have it. Life Long Learning is just as it says, Learning continues as long as you are living.
3. Yes, I always wondered why or how pictures, music, and videos were uploaded on the internet. I had know idea that it is fast and easy in most cases. Also, what's so surprising is the vast amount of informational technology that takes place everyday.
4. I think that what you could do differently to improve this program's format is to use this tool as a Life Long Learning project by giving staff time to work on this consistently. You cannot practice Life Long Learning techniques in a few weeks, nor can you practice them in a few month, years, as it implies, it takes a life time to "LEARN".
5. Without a doubt, I would definitely participate. This program has opened up new and adventurous venues for me. I feel refreshed from the everyday same old thing syndrome. I would like to continue my quest into the unknown...

Exercise 22

SJLibrary's ebooks are electronic books that can be read online, listened to (audio books), or downloaded. You have to be a San Jose Public Library card holder to access the SJLibrary's ebooks. You also have to have a password to access SJ ebooks. There are two sets of ebooks for the San Jose Martin Luther King Jr. Library, one for the university which is passworded for university students, faculty, and staff, the other is for the San Jose general public which is also passworded. Both options are free of charge. The ebooks from the gutenberg Project is free also with the exception to if you subscribe it costs 8.95 or so. If someone has access to a ebook, you have to wait until they are logged out before you can access the same book.

Exercise 21

I did find the yahoo podcast as a very useful tool. Not only can I keep up on library related discussions and news but I also can create my own radio station and create a music library. I found this very interesting. I am in awe with the many tools to keep one up on the latest information. Navigating through this process was at times overwhelming. So many things to choose from, so much information to read through. This is definately an on going process.

Exercise 20

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYW6jY-3UzY

I thought this was facinating. It's amazing how technology moves forward. Ten years ago this would not have been possible. Movies on your computer...Who would have thought it was possible. Not only is it easily accesible, but it is relatively easy to create an account in youtube and watch videos of your choosing.

The reason I chose this clip is that I worked with these guys when I was in Hollywood. I played a bartender in Mario Van Peebles movie "Street Wars". I met George Jackson when he was Producing New Jack City.

Exercise 19 (cont.)

I thought Library Thing was the coolest yet. I found that others were reading my books. It's a very good way of keeping track of what you are reading. It's like having your own library. How long has this been around? I like the way you can rate your books as well as get information on what others thought of your books. This is also a great way of sharing books. You can also suggest readings to others. I will definitely go back to this site and explore some more.

Exercise 18

I like the way you can actually have a template for just about any subject matter. It makes it easy to write resumes or apply for birth certificates. I don't use a mac but I can see other ways to use this application. It is very similar to word as I am familiar with it. It's nice to have something that I am familiar with so I don't have to learn something new if I have time constraints.

Exercise 17

A wiki is easy to edit. PB wiki's are interesting but you have to read a lot of material to figure out how to create one. I like the idea but need a lot of time to play around with it to become familiar.

You can use wiki for recipes, meeting agendas, and before meetings as well as plan trips with friends. Once you get started and share the password it is easy to use.

Exercise 16

I find wiki's to be very interesting. I think that this is a great way to build community. Everyone who wants to participate can. This is a very democratic process. I think one of the ways to improve wiki is to find a way to organize things.

Libraries can apply wiki's in many ways. It can serve as a way to make decisions about issues surrounding the libraries. You can also use wiki's for giving information about programming. It's a great way to keep in touch about meetings.

Exercise 15

I thought that "Into the New World Of Librarianship" shared a lot of what librarians are thinking and talking about. In this new world of librarianship comes the greater responsibility of the librarian to get information out to patrons in an efficient and timely manner. The demand for information is ever so overwhelming. The pace keeps picking up. It is true that the variables of becoming a good librarian are many. This author touched on the many variables involved.

To me L2 is a tool of many that will help inform Librarians, Library workers, students, and the general public on the new tools in helping to access pertinent information that is needed for their researching, and searching needs. It can serve as a one stop shop for many in search of information.

Exercise 14

I found that the blog directory was most useful and I got more relevant hits with this. The in blog posts, and the in tags weren't as useful when I was searching. I guess I need more time playing around with these to become more familiar with the site and my search patterns.

I feel that subject headings are very useful and helpful. You can find helpful key words in subject headings to define and refine your search. Yes, I do find tags as a useful component when using key words to assist in your searching.

Exercise 13

I think that delicious is a perfect way for individual libraries to customize search lists and tag links that are familiar with it's users. I think that it is so convenient to have your bookmarks where ever you go. It has been many times when I'm away from my computer and using another computer, that I am in need of my bookmarks and have to wait until I get to my computer to finish up some pertinent work. I will also be in a situation where I need to refer someone to a service, not having my bookmarks, I can't do that.

Exercise 12

I created a Rollyo account and created a searchbox. I found rollyo to be very useful. When you want to search a certain subject it gives you the opportunity to find what you need in one place. Rollyo can be a one stop shop for searching. It was very easy to set up an account as well. For instance I used reference as one of my searching needs and you can also set up your very own subject headings. It was awsome...

Here's the link to my rollyo:

Exercise 11

I took the tour of Campfire. I couldn't watch the 5 minute video because I didn't have real player. I also didn't have access to it. I like the idea that it was easy movement between chat rooms. Also the entries are highlighted in yellow for easy scanning. Knowing that you can get to the transcripts of any chat was useful. Everything seemed so organized.

Yes, I can see this application being useful in the library. I would like to see if it may take the place of email or even enhance email.

Exercise 10

Francis Howard's Acceptance Speech for the Most Over-Produced Victorian Epic Oscar:Thank you! Oh! Thank you! I can hardly believe this! I feel so blessed! And this statue - it's so heavy! Oh, thank you again! I just want everyone to know that even in my wildest hallucinations, I never would have fantasized that this could ever happen to me. And to the other brilliant nominees, I want each of you to know how totally wonderful your plastic surgery makes me feel right now!You know when they first told me I was nominated, I just had to take a minute and think about how generous my fans have been. I guess it all just makes me feel kinda numbYou know, there are so many back-stabbing stalkers to thank! First off though, I want to thank the esteemed idiots of the Academy, who looked deep within their Magic 8-Balls before giving me this fantastic award! Also, I want to thank God, for being such a powerful force in my life. And to Mom, who taught me to take life by the day. And finally, to all the personal assistants I fired - I couldn't have done it without you! Thank you America, and good night!
I found this generator interesting. It allows you to make up a hilarious Academy Award acceptance speech. It made me laugh quite a bit as I was doing it.

Exercise 9

I found that feedster was very easy to use and visually presentable. I found that it would be very useful to me when looking up specific information /blogs.

Now on the oppossite end I thought that syndic8 was not very visually presentable and even though it was some what useful in searching it was not as good as feedster.

Exercise 6

The flickr mashup that I found allowed me to put in a word and then I would click the spell button and it would use images from flickr for each of the letters of that word. It was cool that it used flickr in such an innovative way.

Exercise 8

The nineteen bloglines RSS feeds I used consisted of the following topics:

1.News to keep me informed.
2.Librarians to keep me current with Librarian work.
3.Law to keep me informed with current laws.

I find that RSS is easily accessible and useful.

Producing Video Movies/ exercise 7

I like Producing Video Movies. I CO-Produced a woman police detective series (four parts), fighting crime around the world in the under world. The four parts consist of Rockin with a Bullett, Dealin Dirty, Retribution, and Dead Fall. We used graphic effects in the movies.
This is a link to the movie I Co-Produced called "Rockin with a Bullet":
